Kreinik Metallic and Silk Thread
Ordering Kreinik Metallic Threads
We are currently experimenting with the best way of ordering large quantities
of thread online. At the moment, we think the best way is to email us the
thread numbers required. This means that you don't have to spend time online
typing in colour numbers or selecting them from enormous drop-down lists.
You can compose your list offline, or paste it from your design program
or even scan the key to your chart and attach it to an email!
So, to buy thread, click the buy button for the quantity and type of
thread you require. When you progress to the checkout and enter your card
details, you'll be sent an email containing your order confirmation and
reference number. If you reply to that email and include your choice of
colours in the message, we'll be able to match your personal details with
your email and send you your choice.
If you're unsure of the colours you need, there are excellent on-line
shade charts at the Kreinik
website, which also has lots of hints and tips and free charts to download.
Blending Filament
One-ply metallic thread that can be used alone or combined with other threads.
This versatile thread is popular in all types of needlecrafts, including
cross-stitch, tapestry and lace making.
Braids
Used alone they give a more defined metallic look than blending filament.
Braids are available in a wide range of thicknesses (the bigger the number,
the thicker the braid) - the thickness should be chosen to roughly match
the thickness of surrounding grounding thread. There's a mind boggling
range of colours, including hi-lustre and even glow-in-the-dark!
Cord, Cable and Ombre
Cord is a one ply, very tightly wound metallic thread, useful for outlining
and backstitch. Cable is a three ply twisted thread for heavier outlining.
Ombre is a twisted, 8-ply thread for hand and machine stitching.
Ribbons
Ribbon is a flat threads, for ribbon embroidery and trims, etc.
Japan Thread
Synthetic, non-tarnishing gimp thread. Excellent for fine stitching, outlining,
couching and laid work. As well as the Japan thread below, there are also
Japan versions of Very Fine, Fine, Tapestry, and Medium Braids plus 1/16"
and 1/8" Ribbons; these are indicated by a J at the end of the colour number
(e.g. 002J is gold Japan).
Facets
Facets is a bead-like thread for couching.
Silk Mori and Silk Serica
Silk Mori is a premium, 6-ply 100% pure spun silk yarn with a luxurious
sheen and moderate lustre. It is easily divisible and can be used for all
counted thread techniques. Silk Serica is 3-ply 100% pure filament silk
with a magnificent rich sheen.
